The brand new Grand Oak Elementary School is on track to open on Monday, August 26 for the 2013-14 school year. The two story, 39 classroom school will provide relief of the overcrowded conditions at Torrence Creek Elementary, which has exceeded its capacity since it opened.

Grand Oak Elementary School is located on Stumptown Road in Huntersville. Raymond Giovanelli, a veteran Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools administrator, has been assigned as the first principal at the school. Giovanelli said projections are they will start out with 605 students and expect to top out at 620 students.
